documentary
Sometimes things happen around us which at the time seem insignificant but eventually become an important part of our history. I believe it's really important to capture these events and ensure they are documented or we will never know they even happened. These sets of images below are a few moments in Chester's history I've been lucky enough to be able to capture.
Chester (old) Market Closure (Oct 2022)
Taken during the very last day of trading at the (old) Chester Market. The doors to the old market close for the very last time at 10pm on Sat 15th Oct 2022. According to a wiki article this market was once described as “possibly one of the ugliest buildings ever erected in the City” and “the new building was not in keeping with the look of the city”. After nearly 22 years of planning and plans being put on hold for various reasons, a new ambitious Chester Market opens its doors on the 5th Nov 2022, for more information see:

Storyhouse becomes 800 seats (Sept 2017)
Taken during the evening of 4th Sept 2017, these show Chester’s new Theatre in its new 800 seater configuration (from 500) which will support various touring productions.
Chester Library Closes (MaR 2017)
On the 31st March 2017 the library in Chester closed its doors for the last time after 33 years of service. Library services moved into the new Storyhouse building which opened to the public on the 11th May 2017. These pictures where taken during the last hour before the closing bell was rung and the front door locked.
The front facade of the library building is listed and so was retained as part of the new northgate development.
Storyhouse Sign Install (Feb 2017)
These images where taken on Tues 21st Feb 2017 of the Chester RE:NEW project to convert a Grade 2 listed 1936 Chester Odeon building into a new world-class theatre, library and cinema called StoryHouse. The main event today was the sign being installed outside the main area on Northgate Street!

These images where taken on Thurs 23rd June 2016 of the Chester RE:NEW project to convert a Grade 2 listed 1936 Chester Odeon building into a new world-class theatre, library and cinema now called StoryHouse.
Chester Odeon (Aug 2014)
Finally I managed to get inside and get permission to shoot the old 1936 Grade II Listed Chester Odeon Cinema. Work started in December 2014 in turning this building into a new world-class theatre, library and cinema (now Storyhouse).
